Emerald Radiance Earrings
Every stone is a square, and every square is turned. Set on the diagonal, each becomes a diamond shape, and set together they compose a lattice with air at every junction — so the earring hangs as a fine mesh, light passing through it as freely as it comes off the stones.
That lattice is where the Art Deco lies. Deco is often remembered as a look, all fans and sunbursts, but its real grammar is the repeated geometric unit, carried at scale until the pattern becomes the ornament in itself. The pleasure here is in the rhythm of the grid and in the moments it breaks — the same thinking as a tiled lobby floor or a stepped façade, rendered in emerald.
The colour alternates: green beside yellow, yellow beside green, in an order the eye happily gives up trying to anticipate and simply follows across the panel. Yellow and green are close neighbours on the colour wheel, and at matched intensity they would compete; here the yellows are the smaller and the lighter, so they read as light lying between the stones.
Each stone is claw-set in its own collet and jointed to its neighbours, which gives the lattice movement in every direction. The earring behaves as fabric rather than as a panel — perfectly wearable at this size, and never falling quite the same way twice.
The pair is deliberately mismatched. One carries its diamond-framed emerald at the ear, the other at the foot of the drop: the same element placed at opposite ends, so the design resolves only when both are worn.
Yellow gold throughout. Against emerald the warm metal deepens the green; against the yellow stones it all but vanishes, which is what allows the lattice to read as stone rather than as a gold frame holding stone.
This pair has been sold to a private collector.
