Orbital Stud Earrings
Rings within rings, each one turning around the last. A single stone bezelled at the centre, and from there the earring works outward in orbits.
The first is mother of pearl, cut as a doughnut so the centre stone appears to float in shell rather than in metal. Then a ring of round brilliant diamonds. Then, standing clear at the rim, a circle of cabochons — set on the very edge and turned at right angles to the face, held in gold claws that reach up from behind.
That outer ring is the piece. Seen straight on it reads as a scalloped border; seen from the side it becomes the widest part of the earring, so the profile changes entirely as the head turns. A face of ten millimetres wears considerably larger for it.
The metal changes with the stone. Malachite in yellow gold, garnet in rose, amethyst and blue topaz in white — each chosen for what it does to that particular colour.
Available in malachite, garnet, amethyst or blue topaz.
