Water Muse Lapel Pin
Three materials, three quite different whites and blues, each doing the work the others cannot — and together they make a lotus.
At the heart, a blue topaz carved by hand into the flower itself, 16 by 12 millimetres and close to ten carats. Carving is the boldest choice in the piece: topaz parts cleanly along a single plane, so each cut at this depth is taken with that plane held in mind, and the carver commits the whole stone every time the wheel touches it. What it buys is a flower with real interior depth — light travels down into the petals and finds the cut lines from within, rather than skating off a table.
Around it, enamel in blue and white forms the leaf. Enamel gives Eve something no stone will: a broad, continuous, opaque field of colour she can shade exactly as she chooses, laid over metal and fired until it holds. Here it reads as the flat green-blue plane of a lotus pad lying on the water, with the carved flower rising clear of it. Diamonds are set through the leaf and the mount, catching along its edges like water beading on the surface.
Beneath, a teardrop South Sea pearl of 17 by 12 millimetres hangs at the end of a white gold stem — the third white, and the only one that moves. The lotus sheds water rather than holding it; a drop crosses the leaf and leaves nothing behind. The pearl is that drop, caught at the moment before it goes.
65 by 32 millimetres in 14-karat white gold — long enough to read as a line rather than a cluster.

Description & Details
Topaz cleaves perfectly along a single plane, which means it can part in one clean break under the wrong pressure. Carving it into a lotus of 16 by 12mm is a decision taken against the stone’s own weakness.
