Bonbon Double Cushion Earrings

Two cushions, one above the other, and every line in the earring a curve. The cushion cut has rounded corners by nature, so the shape runs soft from the ear all the way to the base — the gentlest form in the Bonbon collection, and the one that reads most immediately as a sweet.

The gold is what sets these apart. Each setting is finished by electroplating over a solid gold base, the colour deposited onto the metal itself, so the claws and gallery appear in pink, green, purple or blue rather than in ordinary gold. Where most settings in fine jewellery are made to disappear behind the stone, these join the colour scheme outright, and the earring reads in three tones rather than two.

A cushion of 8 by 8 millimetres sits at the ear above a cushion of 10 by 10 — thirteen to fifteen carats of gemstone across the pair, depending on the combination. The stones are cut generously and cut clean, chosen for the strength of their colour.

Bonbon is French for a sweet, and this is the idea at its simplest: one shape, twice, growing as it falls. Bright, easy and entirely cheerful — a piece with no age attached to it, for anyone who takes pleasure in colour.

Three pairings are available, each framed in a plating tone chosen for that combination:

Blue topaz above blue topaz — a single clear note held through the whole earring.
Rose quartz above white topaz — soft pink into clear brilliance.
White topaz above rose quartz — the same two stones reversed, with the fuller pink carried at the base.
