Balletic Grace Lapel Pin/Pendant

A few lines of gold, and a dancer appears. The lift of an arm, the turn of a head, a waist, and beneath it a skirt — Eve gives the eye exactly what it needs, and the figure assembles itself the moment you look.

Where the arms would be, two clean curves. Where the head would be, a single form. The dancer arrives in the mind of whoever is looking, which is how a movement is remembered rather than described.

The tutu is where the piece opens up. Seven blades of malachite fan out beneath the body, each cut long and slender, the skirt held wide at the instant of the turn.

Malachite is a green nothing else reaches — deep, opaque, and banded in concentric rings that run right through the body of the stone. Each blade carries its own markings, and the angle of the cut decides whether those bands read as folds in the fabric or as light travelling across it. Seven of them, cut to fan together as a single skirt, in a green that shifts from blade to blade as the light moves.

Emeralds and diamonds pick out the figure above, in 14-karat yellow gold.

Description & Details

Seven blades of malachite, each 14mm long and 3mm across, fanned into a skirt. In a stone soft enough to mark with a fingernail, that proportion is the whole difficulty.
