Bonbon Circle & Cushion Earrings

Bonbon is French for a sweet, and the collection is named after exactly that: something bright, uncomplicated and pleasurable. Two clear stones, one above the other, in colours chosen to lift the mood of whoever is wearing them. There is no age attached to a piece like this — it simply suits anyone who enjoys colour.

The difference from anything else in the trade is the gold. Each setting is finished by electroplating over a solid gold base, a process in which the colour is deposited onto the metal itself, and it is what allows the claws and gallery to appear in pink, green, purple or red rather than in ordinary gold. Most settings in fine jewellery are built to retreat behind the stone. These do the opposite: the metal joins the palette and the earring reads in three colours instead of two.

At the ear, a round stone of 8 millimetres. Beneath it, a cushion of 10 by 10 — between nine and thirteen carats of gemstone across the pair, depending on the combination. Eve chooses these for scale and for the strength of the colour: amethyst, smoky quartz, citrine, peridot, white topaz and rose quartz, cut generously and cut clean, so the colour is the entire point.

Round above cushion, one clear colour each, nothing hidden in the composition. Part of the pleasure of a bonbon is seeing precisely what it is before you take it.

Four pairings are available, each framed in a plating tone chosen for that combination:

Amethyst above smoky quartz — violet over a warm neutral.
Amethyst above white topaz — violet against clear brilliance.
Peridot above citrine — green into honey, the brightest of the four.
White topaz above rose quartz — clear running into soft pink.
